Mandate
Native Child and Family Services of Toronto (NCFST) is a Child and Family Wellbeing Society mandated through the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA) of the Province of Ontario. We are members of the Association of Native Child and Family Services Agencies of Ontario (ANCFSAO) and the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS).
We are actively working to establish service protocols with individual First Nations, Inuit, and recognized Métis (FNIM) communities to ensure all children under Section 35 of the Indian Act receive support that is guided by their communities and nations.
Board of Directors
NCFST has a board of nine members, comprising members from a range of First Nations and recognized Métis communities including: Six Nations of the Grand River, M’Chigeeng First Nation, Lac Seul First Nation, and the Manitoba Métis Federation. Our Board provides guidance in the governance of our agency, ensuring financial, legal and governmental oversight, and supporting NCFST’s mandate and mission.
Elder’s Advisory Council
With humility, we recognize that the wisdom of our Elders and Knowledge Carriers is essential in ensuring that NCFST upholds its mission, moves in ways that honour cultural teachings, and strengthens the wellbeing of FNIM children and families. The Elder’s Advisory council (EAC) comprises recognized Elders and Knowledge Carriers from across Turtle Island. EAC members come from a diverse range of First Nations and recognized Métis communities, mirroring the Nations we support, to ensure all FNIM perspectives are represented.
